You can view the wizards page for drafts here.
A Critical Hit Gaming Draft varies slightly from other stores. Our focus is on running a fun casual event where all attendees are able to get the most enjoyment from the experience. The relative rule enforcement is casual which means that there is more leeway for inexperienced players.
Drafts are great events for players who know how to play magic already but may not be invested enough to make their own decks. The benefit of a draft is that everyone is only playing with cards they get on the day.
Prizing
Our prizing method is flat meaning that every player is a winner, compared to other systems that tend to function in a winner takes all mentality. Every player wins a pack for completing the event and then for every 4 players 1 pack is added to the prize pool. Since the prize pool is over 1 pack per player this is also why you may see our draft tickets being slightly higher than other stores who use different prizing.
- All Players - 1 prize pack
- Players who win all their games +1 prize pack
-If no players win all their games the players tied for most wins may play off for the prize pack(s) or split the packs value as store credit. (If any player declines the play off it will default to store credit. Store Credit will be based off the unit price of packs factoring in any multi-buy price)
-If there are more prize packs than players who win all their games the spare prize packs will be given out based on various awards. Eg. Most interesting Deck, Best Sportsman etc.
-Bonus prize packs may be given out for awards but are not guaranteed with every event.
-Players may opt to accept store credit over a booster pack. Store Credit will be based off the unit price of packs factoring in any multi-buy price)
Drafting
During a draft you are given 3 boosters packs. Players sit in a circle, open a pack, take a card and then pass the rest of the pack around the circle with everyone taking a card until the pack is exhausted.
-During the draft do not place down a pack if there is already a pack waiting for the player next to you to pick from
-If there are inexperienced players around and you notice a player has not taken an especially powerful or valuable card with the first draw of the pack you can ask them to double confirm they want the card they picked and quickly explain the value of the card they passed on.
-Draft tables will be made of 2-8 players. If more players sign up to an event than this the players will be split into groups for the draft.
Deck Building
After the draft phase is completed you should have roughly 45 cards. From here you build a 40 card deck.
-Land cards will be provided if you do not already have lands for the deck you want to build.
-If you are running any double sided cards you will need to provide or purchase opaque card sleeves.
Playing
After you have built your decks our tournament manager will decide who plays off and those players play off in best of 3 games. You will have 45 minutes to complete the round.
-If you are still playing after 45 minutes the game will continue for 5 turns or 10 minutes, whichever expires first (If a player has just ended a turn it's 5 turns including the one about to start, otherwise it is the current turn plus 4 additional turns)
